My background is probably pretty typical – grew up playing sports, then I joined the Army after college. I started CrossFit in 2007, as I realized during my second deployment to Iraq that the typical body part splits weren’t really useful in combat. I taught myself most of the movements via the exercise library on CrossFit.com and other YouTube videos. I was lucky that my first experience at an affiliate, about a year later, was with an L2 coach (rare at the time) and a coach on the Barbell Seminar Staff. They were able to get rid of most of my bad habits. Since then, CrossFit has essentially been my gateway drug to fitness as I’ve gone to PT school, became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, absorb everything I can about kettlebells, Olympic weightlifting, and power lifting, AND get a 15% discount at Lululemon. I hope that I can use the things I learned along the way to help people on their fitness journey.
