Introducing Our New Nutrition and Wellness Coach

By admin | In Nutrition | on November 18, 2013

CrossFit West Houston is proud to announce Stephanie Jamison as the newest member of the CrossFit West Houston Team. Stephanie is our new Nutrition and Wellness Coach. She will be putting on seminars, writing our nutrition blog and is available for providing nutrition guidance services.

Here is Stephanie’s Bio:

Stephanie found CrossFit only about a year ago, but was instantly hooked (like most other CFers), she found it was the perfect balance of gymnastics, endurance, and weightlifting that she was missing in the globo gym routine.  Having been a gymnast for 12 years she found it a blast to revisit those kinds of moves during WODs.  Stephanie also cheered on the sidelines for seven years and actively competed in track meets—qualifying for the state meet for pole vaulting all four years of high school.

Her love for sports and health ultimately won over her passion for engineering as she finally (after 5 majors!) decided to study nutritional science at Oklahoma State University.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition—Allied Health.  Although she learned a lot about food, it wasn’t necessarily what she feels (and research shows) was the best way to eat—the standard USDA guidelines.  It wasn’t until Stephanie found herself in New Mexico working as a Nutritional Health Coach at Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage that she truly found her passion for health through diet and lifestyle interventions.  She is currently working on her Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine from the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon.

Stephanie believes in the power of knowledge (and applying that knowledge) of good food equals good health.  Starting with a template focused on a Weston A. Price or Paleo approach can be truly life changing (and a great starting place).  She isn’t a Paleo guru, but knows that at the end of the day it’s important to find what’s causing harm to your body and replace it with what promotes health—nutrient dense foods in their most natural state that support our evolutionary needs.

On a personal note, Stephanie is the loving wife a real-life “Superman” and enjoys living life to the fullest while bringing what she teaches clients about into her own life.  She and her husband moved to Houston at the beginning of August and have been overwhelmed by the passion and expertise found at CrossFit West Houston.  She’s happy to join the CFW family as the Nutrition and Wellness Coach and looking forward to making positive impacts on your family!
