You may or may not know if you are deficient in Vitamin D3. A trip to the Dr for an annual physical will certainly tell you as it is typically part of the standard blood panel. Vitamin D3 is an important hormone, that’s right I said hormone, in which deficiency is linked to higher risk of conditions like osteoporosis, heart disease and certain cancers.
Where can you get D3?
Vitamin D3 is found in foods such as meat and egg yolks. And it is also found in sun exposure, (sun exposure without sun screen that is.) Some folks are at a greater risk such as folks with darker pigment and live in a climate with a long winter( Not necessarily Houston, but sometimes harsh summers keep us indoors quite a bit. )
Why is it important?
D3 is crucial to calcium absorption, strong bones and immune function.
What if you are low?
Supplementing with D3( We have Pure Pharma Vitamin D3, you can get it in the Pro Shop. Pure Pharma is a high quality product. I use it daily.) can be a good idea. The dosage should be varied as needed based on sun exposure. For instance, in the winter when you might not get as much sun exposure then take more. In the summer, when you get more sun exposure take less.
When to take it?
D3 is fat soluble, which is why the Pure Pharma is blended with Olive Oil, so it should be taken typically in the morning with your eggs. And there are some reports that link taking a D3 in the evening before bed interferes with sleep, so be safe and take it in the morning!
