What is CrossFit West Houston?

CrossFit West Houston is an integrated approach to fitness that builds strength and increases endurance with high intensity workouts that are adaptable to any level of conditioning. Rather than working muscles in isolation, CrossFit exercises involve the entire body, a method that gets balanced results much quicker than traditional programs that separate the weight room from the aerobics studio. CrossFit workouts have been designed for marines and middle school kids, ultra-marathoners and ultra-couch-potatoes, grandmothers and grand masters.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

CrossFit has the benefits of a personal trainer without the cost. The workouts are short and sweet, but intense…and you will get in better shape than you have ever been in. The environment is very motivating and supportive and everyone enjoys the camaraderie and pain.

 

What makes CrossFit West Houston different than other gyms?

The CrossFit program is designed to give you maximum results in shorter time duration. Our program is your regimen. We provide you with the necessary tools you need to achieve your fitness goals.

Most people go to the gym daily and waste their valuable time, doing the same thing day in and day out. Here at CrossFit West Houston you will never do the same workout, you will notice a difference in how you look, how you feel, strength and endurance. If you follow our plan we guarantee results!

 

Do I have to be in shape to take CrossFit classes?

No. CrossFit is meant for people of all levels, from the complete beginner to an advanced athlete. What is unique about CrossFit is that it is completely scalable. This means two people at completely different fitness levels can perform the same workout but to the best of their own ability. 

CrossFit is for everyone regardless of your current ability or lack thereof. We will ensure the loads and the exercises are adjusted to your capabilities as well as teach you new skills.

All of our workouts consist of compound functional movements, which are natural, scalable, modifiable, or have substitutions. This means that everyone regardless of age, gender, fitness level, etc. can have fun exercising together.

Show up as you are… REALLY! We’ll make you better.

 

But what if I’m really out of shape?

Then get yourself in here and get fit! You can start CrossFit no matter what your level of fitness, and you’ll be amazed by your progress. The best part is that you will notice the gains you make in your everyday life. The groceries will feel lighter, you’ll find yourself easily pushing a full wheelbarrow up hills, and you’ll be able to chase down your kids.

I’m already in shape, because I run several times a week. Why should I try CrossFit?

So you’re a runner (or cyclist, or swimmer). You have pretty good, maybe even great, cardiovascular endurance. But what about your strength? Muscular stamina? Power? Speed? Balance? Coordination? Agility? CrossFit hits all these domains of fitness, and more. Once you’ve tried CrossFit, you’ll realize that you weren’t as fit as you thought you were. And best of all, you’ll see gains in your endurance sport too. Come try a CrossFit workout and we’ll show you what we mean.

 

Do I need prior experience to take classes?

No. We will help to get you started and make sure that you are performing all of your exercises safely.

 

I’ve heard CrossFit is really hard. Is that true?

Great fitness doesn’t come easy.

Does your gym workout right now leave you so gassed at the end that you have to lay down just to catch your breath?  CrossFit will knock you flat. But that doesn’t mean you start at the hardest level. You start wherever your ability level dictates. If you can only dead lift 50 pounds safely, then that’s where you will start. And then we help you to get stronger. Got a real pull-up? Great, we’ll show you how to do more. Don’t have a pull-up? That’s even better. We’ll teach you how to get one — and we’ll get you strong enough to do one. No matter who you are.

The goal is to work with your own relative intensity to get the best workout you’ve ever experienced.  We will show you exactly why CrossFit is for you.

 

What should I expect at my first CrossFit class?

Everyone is always open and friendly to first timers. Someone will no doubt take you under their wings and help you through. Everyone remembers what it was like at their first class. 

We typically start with 5-10 minutes of light warm ups and then do our workout of the day. This can consist of anything from pushups, pull-ups, and squats, to rowing, dumbbells, and dead lift. Our specialty is not specializing so it is different every time.

CrossFit classes are fun, intense, and run an hour long. We usually include a warm up, an explanation of the workout of the day, the workout of the day, and a cool down. People of all athletic abilities can work out side by side, because we scale each workout to the abilities and fitness level of each individual. How much does CrossFit cost?

When comparing pricing between your local gym and CrossFit, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Your monthly rate for a regular box gym simply gets you in the door. You then have to plan, motivate and execute your own workouts unless you work with a personal trainer every day. At CrossFit West Houston, we plan and lead workouts that change every day using our unique equipment. Each time you attend a workout, we will teach, encourage, and push you so that you will see results quickly.

Personal training rates at the average “globo-gym” can run $50 and up for a single session, and that’s on top of your monthly membership.  By comparison, our small group sessions provide the same level of service but the cost is significantly less.  Add to that the fact that you will see dramatic results in a very short time.  You can toil away for years at “the gym” for $30 per month and never reach your goals, or hang out with us for a few months and get into the best shape of your life. We are actually quite reasonable for the service and results you receive.

 

What I should I bring and wear when I take CrossFit?

You should come to CrossFit classes in clothes that are comfortable to exercise in. For most, that is a comfortable T-shirt and pair of shorts. Proper footwear is also necessary. Make sure to bring water, a towel, and a positive attitude!

The first week is always free, from there you can decide if you would like to drop-in or join one of our pricing tiers.

Right now we accept cash and checks. We are working on an online payment system which will be implemented soon.

There is never a contract with CrossFit West Houston. We know you will want to come back!
